This year, there are several key initiatives for Fiscal Year 2008 that we hope you will support:
- $1.4 billion for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria;
- $440 million in bilateral malaria funding, including $300 million to expand the President's Malaria Initiative, $90 million in other bilateral funds, and $50 million in technical assistance and other programming;
- $650 million in FY08, and $8 billion over the next five years, for a new initiative to address the critical shortage of health care workers in sub-Saharan Africa; and
- Language in appropriations bills this year that requires the Treasury Department to use the US voice at the International Monetary Fund to exempt health and education spending from imposed "budget ceilings."
