The Coordinating Committee is the elected body of national officers guiding SCCS. The CC includes the Campaign, Advocacy, Grassroots, Partnerships, Media, Researcher, High School and Website Coordinators. The Coordinating Committee was created to support and unite chapters through student based leadership and grass roots organizing. The CC can provide materials for individual chapters to hand out at meetings, advocacy strategies, media materials, research, and fundraising suggestions.
Campaign Coordinators oversee the functioning of the Coordinating Committee and provide support and leadership to the committee.
Advocacy is at the core of SCCS’s mission. Programs that provide basic, effective health care to children in need have been neglected. Advocacy Coordinators track child survival legislation and provide materials and information for chapters to advocate on these important issues in their own communities. Often, information is sent to chapters in the form of Action Alerts, which provide instruction for simple actions such as making a phone call or writing a letter to a politician. When chapters act together, they can make a difference!
Grassroots coordinators are in charge of developing new chapters and keeping in touch with established chapters. The grassroots team strives to get to know and work in a direct way with chapters. The grassroots team also in charge of a weekly SCCS newsletter.
The Partnerships Coordinator provides ideas for local projects chapters can complete in your communities to impact the children right in your backyard. These projects are called global-locals. This Coordinator also develops and maintains contacts with partner organizations in the child survival community in the United States, as well as internationally.
Media is fundamental to a successful advocacy campaign. Media can reach out to the private, public, and government sectors through newspaper articles and TV interviews, raising awareness of child survival issues and attracting new advocates.
The Researcher Coordinator does research needed by the campaign and writes up information in a way that helps educate SCCS members about various issues connected to child survival.
The High School Coordinators work with the Grassroots Coordinators to spread the message of SCCS beyond college campuses. The High School Coordinators promote the development of high school SCCS chapters around the country.
The Website Coordinator is in charge of making sure the website www.supportchildsurvival.org is up to date with media links, stories, national action days, and photos.
